Shammah Temple Fellowship: Sermon of Sunday July 5, 2026
By Pastor Muzuri
Theme: Steps to God’s promises
Reference scriptures: Joshua 19:1-51
Everyone has got promises from God. Some of those we got when we were saved as Christians, some others when we were praying, some are personal and others are collective. However, there’s some part of responsibility required of us to be able to get to the promises we received from God.
So, which steps should we go through before living our promises?
- Serving others without looking at what you lack
Putting others first before you even think about yourself is unusual. However, that’s exactly what God wants us to normalize as Believers. Joshua had taken over from Moses, a very delicate task. When time came to give families land, their promised heritage, Joshua served everyone and it is only after everyone had gotten theirs that the people gave Joshua a piece of land in the middle of their own.
This is the heart of God. People need to start putting their fellows first before they start serving themselves. Joseph in prison got a revelation for others. He even told them that God had decided to get them out of jail, which happened. It was not about himself, but others first and God blessed him through that very attitude.
- Wait for God’s timing
The six families mentioned in this chapter were to be given their land. When time was right, everyone rejoiced with others as they received their own plots. Even Joshua himself received after everyone. After giving Simeone’s land was given, Zebulun watched on and cheered them, Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, Dan didn’t protest or question why they were not the first ones to get land.
Abram’s patience through a promise that logically looked impossible. However, God stood by his side until it was done.
- Accept God’s will and obey His plan
These people may have had some doubt about when and where to get their piece of land. Those who got on a rocky place or on less quality space, or in a forest, or on a mountainous and hilly place, they all accepted it without challenging God.
Same as Abraham obeyed God without questioning Him. From the time he was told to leave his father’s house to the time he was asked to sacrificed his own son, Isaac. He only followed God’s command without asking questions or doubting the outcome. We can only be able to accept God’s plan by fervently and consistently praying, fellowshipping with others, and meditating on the scriptures without ceasing.
