What should help Believers take Godly decisions

Shammah Temple Fellowship: Sermon of November 24, 2024

By Pastor Alexis Muzuri

Theme: What should help Believers take Godly decisions

Reference scriptures: Genesis 24: 1-67

Every day is a decision day. Whatever we feely do follows some personal decision. In 1984, there was taken a decision to divide African countries, leading to today’s territorial borders. Spiritually, our whole life is also a sum of certain decisions we take, some good and some bad. Reaching one’s promises also depends on the decisions they take.

So, how should we take decisions as Believers?

  1. We should take decisions remembering that we are not of our own.

We are not of our own. God has created us all with an intent, a particular mission that we seek to accomplish in our lifetime. For this, we do not do anything we want and when we want it. Abraham is one of the people who truly demonstrated how to be not your own. God told him to leave his father’s country and go to a country He would show him. He went directly without asking God where that was and why He wanted him to leave.

When Abraham sent his servant to look for his son’s bride, he made him understand that he and his family do not take any decision as they want without taking God into consideration. I can do nothing on my own initiative or authority. Just as I hear, I judge; and My judgement is just (fair, righteous), because I do not seek My own will, but only the will of Him who sent me,John 5:30.

Our decisions have a direct or indirect consequences. The best way to live our Godly lives is to never take our own decision removing God and His plan from our life and destiny. Calamities that happened to Israelites happened because they had let God out of their lives and decide to live on their own.

Whatever we do, whatever we plan to do, whatever we invest in, whatever our heart desires should follow God’s guidance if we really know we are not of our own. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of a darkness into His marvelous light,” 1 Peter 2:9.

  1. Before taking a decision, we should pray first.

This is a prayer that doesn’t limit us to all we want and desire. Yes, we can tell Him all we want, but not limit Him to what He want to do in and through us. Eliezer prayed earnestly for Isaac’s bride and that prayer was full of submission to Abraham’s God, not even his own God… He had followed Abraham to that point of letting his God become his as well. God showed him favor and brought Rebecca in his hand.

What can we learn from the prayer of Abraham, Isaac, Eliezer…?

When we pray, the Holy Spirit convinces us that God hears our prayer. After praying, we need to trust everything in God’s hand as we shouldn’t play able on our own. Praying puts us in a situation where God chooses for us, even when it’s not what we may prefer.

We are also to keep believing even when what God is calling us to wait for doesn’t make sense. That’s what Abraham did and he was called the grandfather of Believers. He knew he didn’t need to know all the details for God to do it, but he knew God was able and kind enough to him to accomplish His plan in and through him.

In short, we, as Believers should carry the light of God in our decision making. It is not necessary for us to see things our way and believe, but when we trust our God with our decisions, He does all for us in His love and mercy. Go on our knees before taking our major as well as our minor life decisions is crucial to our lives as Believers. May God help us do so!
