Shammah Temple Fellowship: Sermon of Sunday February 22, 2026
By Pastor Alexis Muzuri
Theme: How can we overcome obstacles to our promises?
Reference scriptures: Joshua 3:1-17
All of us Believers have our God’s promise before us. There’s at least one or two things God has promised us. No matter what is going on now, there is God’s promise somewhere down the road. The obstacles standing in our way are either from us, from our environment or from the seasons we are going through. For the Israelites, Pharaoh, the Wilderness, the Red Sea, the Jordan Stood in their way. However, most important is the fact that we have a God who is with us.
So, how can we overcome those obstacles?
- By following the Salvation path the way it is
It is not just pretending to follow it, sometimes doing it one’s way, but following to the letter the way God has envisioned it. Joshua was telling his fellow Israelites that they would be guided by the arc, which was not only a Godly way to lead them, but also a direct guide for their next path forward. He wanted them to put a kilometer of distance between the Arch and them to respect the greatness of God, and also wanted them to be holy before crossing the Jordan river.
As we go ahead in the Salvation Road, we do not just move as we please, we do not just cross as we find fit, but follow the directive from the one we are looking forward to meeting at the end of that very road. “But you are chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful,” (1 Peter 2:9).
With all the obstacles ahead us, if we decide to follow Jesus, he will deal with them on our behalf, but if we decide to go before Jesus, we will be on our own.
- By Believing beyond what can be seen
The strategy Joshua put in place by taking the Arch of covenant before the people was Believing beyond the possible. He was seeing the opposite of what everyone else would see. He was believing the word God had given him, that He would be with him as He had been with Moses. Despite God not telling him clearly, He strongly trusted Him and led the people.
- By staying in unity as Believers
Joshua ordered that each tribe of Israel be represented and those envoys set foot in Jordan. That unity sent a clear message; we are together in the easy and in the difficult parts of the journey. The result was too loud to be ignored by anyone – the water was cut off and they marched in the once flood-level water just as a solid road.
One of the most dangerous weapons the devil uses to destroy Believers is to distract them and take them far away from the community. It’s easy to fall down and stay alone than when you’re with fellow Believers who hold your hand in difficult times.
