Shammah Temple Fellowship: Sermon of Sunday May 31, 2026
By Theophile Ndayiziga
Theme: The Benefits we get from following God all the time
Reference scriptures: Joshua 14:1-15
It is very possible that, as humans, we feel like consistently doing one thing over and over again can be exhausting. We may feel like taking a break doing something, especially when it gets a bit more intense and boring. However, following God without stopping, in all circumstances has great rewards.
Following God in all circumstances
- leads us to God’s promises
Caleb explained how he took on a dangerous spying journey with other fellows. He was the one to positively report on the situation on the ground, not because it was all good, but because he looked at the powerful God who had promised to give them the land. His assurance was not from a human being, wo would possibly give up on their word. “So, Moses swore [an oath] on that day, saying, ‘Be assured that the land on which your foot has walked will be an inheritance to you and to your children always, because have followed the Lord my God completely’,” (Joshua 14:9).
- Empowers us
For following God to the letter, Caleb was empowered. He was given power beyond his age, despite his great assignments that he had been accomplishing over the youthful times. “I am still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me; as my strength now, for war and for going out and coming in,” (Joshua 14:11).
Parting our ways with sins can keep us in great shape for God’s ministry. Spiritual power stays with us as long as we lead a powerful, strong spiritual life that battles against the devil.
- Takes our fear away
Caleb chose to take a land that was still inhabited by the giant-like Anakim. Fear would have been an option to keep him distracted and uncertain for the victory. However, He knew that the battle was for God to win, not him and his humane fallible capacity. He chose to trust God and be an instrument for His promise to accomplish. “… for you heard on that day that the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities; perhaps the Lord will be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the Lord said,” (Joshua 14:12).
All in all, we cannot, as Believers, expect some great benefits until we submit our own selfish intentions to Him. To follow God in all circumstances has a lot of benefits, we get access to God’s promises, we get empowered, and get our fears taken away. May you surrender the part of you that wants to give up on God.
